Pierce my Skin (2019)
This short film is a work in progress within my research about the role of Switzerland in colonialism, with a focus on the role of women, "post-colonial", the heritage of
imperialism, otherness, international feminism, healing as a cultural element and everyday language as a trigger for cultural imagery.
Since 2017 I have been following traces of a Swiss missionary doctor from Appenzell who lived in Lesotho for almost 40 years. Supported by Pro Helvetia, I talked to a lot of people in Switzerland and in Lesotho who knew and still remember the missionary.
The video is a first montage and approach to the material. The sound was created in collaboration with the Basuto artist Mpho Molikeng.
